The journey of dreams to become an interior designer

Dreams come true, that's what happened. I had dreamed of becoming a system designer throughout my entrepreneurial career. My friend tipped me about the interior designer training starting in January at the Varia Tikkurila vocational college. From that moment I decided to forward the application and almost on the same day I got in touch with the school about an interview. After the interview, I was informed that I had been admitted to the training starting in January 2023. The training lasts 1.5-2.5 years, depending on your course choices.

When the training started in January, I had butterflies in my stomach. After all, it was a big change in the everyday life of an entrepreneur, changing to the everyday life of a student, entrepreneur and mother. How do I make everything fit together? However, I was determined to overcome this challenge as well. I wouldn't change a day.

The studies consisted of basic and optional studies. Basic studies included drawing with both pencil, water, and wood colors, clay works. I haven't drawn anything by hand since school. Of course, the work tool of an interior designer is drawing programs such as AUTOCAD, Sketchup, etc. We have been able to get to know the secrets of these during the spring and autumn. I have been proven that age is not an obstacle to learning new things, on the contrary, you really get a boost to learn more. Great feeling! I can recommend to everyone.

We have been able to visit companies, e.g. Värisilma, Martela, Valli Interiors, ABL tiles, etc. Even though I myself am an entrepreneur also in the role of a buyer, all company visits have given me a completely different perspective on material purchases in the role of a designer.

As practice, we were able to take part in designing the interior of the Tikkurila city's culture bus. Designing a public space has many interesting and challenging components that you have to take into account. Nice project overall.

Now I'm at the end of my studies. Designing/drawing display works during the spring and after that I can start planning your projects for you, the customers.
